First Prize Bread

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Activate the yeast according to the package directions.

  2. Prepare the sponge in the same pan used for the yeast.

  3. Allow the sponge to rise until it is very light.

  4. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  5. Bake the bread at 400°F (200°C) until it is light brown, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for one hour.
