Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the protein and meat base that becomes the thick, smooth paste.
Water
Cooks the chicken and, added while pounding, loosens the meat into a workable paste.

The step that matters

Boil gently until thick. Boiling too hard can toughen the proteins and make the mixture grainy or stringy. Gentle heat lets the meat proteins set slowly into a smooth, thick consistency.

Swap the nutmeg

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, lemon):

  1. Thymefits better
  2. Marjoramfits better
  3. Rosemaryfits better
  4. Nutmegthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
