The flavor team

The pairs that carry this dish. Each one is judged two ways: how much their aromas overlap, and how often cooks already put them together.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Heavy cream
Whipped into foam that gives the dessert its light, airy body.
Gelatin
Sets the cream so it holds its shape when unmolded.
Vanilla
Adds aroma and flavor to the cream.

The step that matters

Stirring the gelatin into the whipped cream. Gelatin must be cool but still liquid when added. If it is too hot it can melt the cream and deflate the foam, and if it is too cold it sets in lumps. Stir thoroughly so it spreads evenly and the set is uniform.

Swap the vanilla

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream, gelatin):

  1. Vanillathe original
  2. Strawberryfits about as well
  3. Raspberryfits less well
  4. Coconutfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against cream, gelatin. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
