Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Orange ice
Forms the frozen body of the dessert and carries its flavour.
Egg white
Adds air and body to the orange ice, giving a lighter, smoother texture.
Butter
Seals gaps around the lids so the mold stays closed while freezing.
Tutti frutti
Adds candied fruit pieces that contrast in texture and sweetness with the ice.

The step that matters

Turn out the mold carefully. Brief contact with tepid water loosens the frozen outer layer from the mold without melting it. Too much heat or force can soften the ice and break the shape.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, melon, butter):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Peachfits better
  3. Pineapplefits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, melon, butter. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
