Ingredients

Directions

Make the filling

  1. In a bowl, cream the cheese with a fork and add enough mayonnaise to thin it out.

  2. Stir in a few drops of red food coloring until you achieve a clear pink color.

  3. Mix in the finely chopped nut meats.

Assemble

  1. Cut each loaf lengthwise into 6 slices.

  2. Spread a thick layer of the cheese filling on one slice to create a white layer, then add a pink layer on top.

Chill and slice

  1. Wrap the sandwich in a wet napkin and refrigerate for 1 hour.

  2. Remove from the refrigerator and slice into ¼ inch slices.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cream cheese
Forms the creamy, spreadable body of the filling that holds the layers together.
Mayonnaise
Adds moisture and thins the cream cheese so it spreads smoothly.
Nut meats
Add a crunchy texture that contrasts with the soft filling.
Sandwich loaves
Provide the bread structure that holds the layered filling.

The step that matters

Chilling before slicing. Cream cheese firms as it cools. Wrapping and refrigerating for 1 hour sets the filling so the white and pink layers hold their shape. Slicing too early can smear the ribbons.

Swap the raisin

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream cheese, meat):

  1. Coconutfits better
  2. Avocadofits better
  3. Pineapplefits better
  4. Raisinthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against cream cheese, meat. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
