Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sugar
Dissolves into the syrup to sweeten the punch and balance the tart juices.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the flavor and offsets the sweetness.
Grape juice
Provides the main fruit flavor and color, plus some natural sweetness.
Ginger ale
Adds carbonation for lightness and contributes the ginger flavor.

The step that matters

Just before serving, add the ginger ale.. Ginger ale is carbonated, and its bubbles escape quickly, especially when warm or stirred hard. Adding it last keeps the punch fizzy and light.

Swap the grape

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (ginger, sugar, lemon):

  1. Orangefits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Mangofits better
  4. Grapethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against ginger, sugar, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
