Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Whole fish
Forms the main body of the dish and cooks gently inside the oven heat.
Dry bread
Absorbs moisture and holds the dressing together while it cooks.
Onions
Add sweetness and aroma as they soften and mellow in the oven.
Bacon
Adds fat that bastes the fish and browns the surface as it bakes.

The step that matters

Stuffing the fish. Packing the dressing loosely leaves room for heat to reach the centre, so the dressing and fish cook through evenly. Packing it tightly can leave the middle undercooked while the outside overcooks.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (fish, pepper, bread):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Tomatofits better
