  1. In a bowl, mix melted butter, cracker crumbs, pepper, salt, and beaten eggs.

  2. Pour the mixture into a buttered mold (an oatmeal cooker works well).

  3. Place the mold in a pan of boiling water, cover, and steam for one hour.

  4. Check the water level to ensure it remains boiling.

  5. Once done, set the mold in cold water for one minute, then turn out the loaf.

  6. For the sauce, heat milk to boiling and thicken with cornstarch mixed in cold water.

  7. Add a spoonful of butter, salmon liquor, and beaten egg to the sauce.

  8. Remove from heat, season, and let stand in hot water for three minutes, covered.

  9. Stir in lemon juice and pour the sauce over the loaf on a platter.
