Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken stock
Forms the liquid base that carries the soup's savory flavor.
Mushrooms
Add earthy, savory flavor and some body to the soup.
Rich cream
Adds richness and a smooth, silky texture to the finished soup.

The step that matters

Stirring in the cream. Cream is rich in fat and can curdle or separate if it is boiled or added too quickly to very hot liquid. Stirring it in slowly just before serving, off the boil, keeps it smooth.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, mushroom, pepper, cream):

  1. Garlicfits better
  2. Thymefits better
  3. Celeryfits better
  4. Parsleythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, mushroom, pepper, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
