Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Concord grapes
Provide the main flavor, color, and juice for the drink.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and balances the tartness of the grape juice.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the flavor of the grape juice.

The step that matters

Bottle the hot juice in air-tight jars. Juice must be kept hot and sealed so it stays free of spoilage microbes; otherwise it can ferment, since yeasts in the air can act on the sugars in the juice.

Swap the grape

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, lemon):

  1. Orangefits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Vanillafits better
  4. Grapethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
