Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bitter chocolate
Provides the main chocolate flavour and body of the sauce.
Granulated sugar
Adds sweetness and balances the bitterness of the chocolate.
Flour
Thickens the sauce as its starch cooks in the hot liquid.

The step that matters

Stirring the flour mixture into the chocolate. Flour lumps if it meets hot liquid unevenly. Pouring boiling water over the sifted sugar and flour and stirring until smooth first keeps the starch dispersed so the sauce thickens without lumps.
