What each ingredient does

Cranberries
Provide the main fruit flavour, tartness, and the pulp that ferments into wine.
Sugar
Feeds the fermentation and adds sweetness that balances the cranberry tartness.
Water
Dilutes the pulp and extracts juice so the mixture can steep and ferment.

The step that matters

Let it ferment in lightly-covered jars.. Fermentation needs air to escape while keeping contaminants out, so the jars should be loosely covered rather than sealed. Sealing too tightly can trap gas and cause breakage, while open jars invite spoilage.
