What each ingredient does

Lamb chops
Provide the main meat, which is cooked quickly over high heat until done.
Butter
Adds richness and moisture to the chops and helps them brown.
Black pepper
Adds sharp, aromatic seasoning to the finished chops.

The step that matters

Boil over a clear fire, turning often, for about 8 minutes until done.. Turning often spreads heat evenly so the chops cook through without the outside burning. Cooking to doneness rather than by time alone matters because thickness varies, and lamb is best when cooked just through.

Swap the potato

The recipe marks potato as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (mutton, butter, pepper):

  1. Potatothe original
  2. Capsicumfits about as well
  3. Carrotfits about as well
  4. Onionfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against mutton, butter, pepper. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
