Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Blanched almonds
Provide nutty flavor and body, which thicken the soup as they simmer in the cream.
Thin cream
Adds fat and richness, giving the soup a smooth, full mouthfeel.
Whipped cream
Adds a light, airy texture and cool richness on top of the hot soup.

The step that matters

Simmer gently and thicken slightly. Cream can scorch or boil over if heated too hard. A gentle simmer lets the almonds release flavor and thicken the cream evenly without breaking or sticking to the pot.

Swap the white pepper

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (almond, cream):

  1. Nutmegfits better
  2. Cinnamonfits better
  3. Capersfits better
  4. White pepperthe original
