Salt Rising Bread
Ingredients
Directions
In an earthen bowl, mix 1 pint of lukewarm water, 1 teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of baking soda to make a stiff batter.
Set the batter to rise in a kettle of warm water, maintaining a consistent temperature.
Once the batter is light, add more lukewarm water and flour to create a soft sponge.
Let the sponge rise again, then add more flour and knead well.
Shape the dough into loaves and place them in a baking pan.
