Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a hot oven”. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Mix sugar and melted butter until well combined.

  3. Spread the mixture on parchment paper to a thickness of 1 inch.

  4. Bake until done, then remove the paper.

  5. Spread jelly over the cake on the side where the paper was removed.

  6. Roll the cake loosely and quickly.

  7. Cover with water icing and dust with powdered sugar.

  8. Trim the ends and slice into pieces.
