Lunch Rolls
Ingredients
Directions
The book says “a cool oven”. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a bowl, mix the lard and baking powder.
Add the milk and stir until combined.
Roll out the dough to 1 inch thick.
Cut with a round cutter about 2½ inches in diameter.
Place the rounds on a greased baking tin, just touching each other.
Brush the tops with milk.
Bake until golden, then brush with milk again after removing from the oven.
Transcribed from a scanned cookbook and modernised for today's kitchens. Where the book gave no heat or time, or said "a moderate oven", the temperatures and times here may be modern equivalents rather than the book's own figures.
