Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Cream together 1½ cups sugar and ½ cup butter.

  3. Add the yolks of 2 eggs and 1 egg white.

  4. Stir in 1 cup cold water.

  5. Mix in 2½ cups flour and 2 teaspoons baking powder.

  6. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and stir well before adding baking powder.

  7. For the filling, boil 1 cup sugar and ½ cup milk with walnut-sized butter and 2 squares of chocolate for 20 minutes.

  8. Once cooked, add the beaten egg white from the cake.
