Fish Chowder

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In an iron pot, fry the salt pork until crisp, then remove it, leaving the fat.

  2. Layer the fish pieces, split crackers, and chopped pork in the pot, seasoning with onion and pepper between layers.

  3. Repeat until all fish is used, then cover with water and simmer until the fish is tender.

  4. Remove the fish and thicken the broth with cracker crumbs and catsup, if desired.

  5. Bring to a boil, then add the lemon juice and pour the gravy over the fish.
