Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Breast of lamb
Provides the main meat, which becomes tender when boiled until the bones release.
Sifted bread crumbs
Form a crisp, golden coating that browns when fried.
Beaten egg
Acts as a binder so the bread crumbs stick to the lamb.
Spanish sauce
Adds a rich, savoury moisture that complements the fried lamb.
Mushrooms
Add earthy flavour and a soft texture to the dish.

The step that matters

Press the lamb flat and let it cool. Pressing under a weight while cooling gives the meat an even, compact shape so the coating stays even and the slices hold together when fried.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (lamb, onion, carrot, turnip, sauce, mushroom, bread):

  1. Parsleyfits better
  2. Garlicfits better
  3. Celeryfits better
