Whipped Cream Fob Layer Cake

Ingredients

Directions

Whip the cream

  1. Combine chilled cream and sugar in a mixing bowl.

  2. Beat until it can be spread.

  3. Gently stir in your choice of flavoring.

  4. Be careful not to overbeat, or the cream will turn to butter.

  5. Fold in the beaten egg white to make the cream lighter.

Make the chocolate filling

  1. Combine ½ cup sugar, ½ cup ground chocolate, ½ cup milk, a small piece of butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla in a saucepan for the chocolate filling. Boil for a few minutes. Stir until thick enough to spread.

Make the second chocolate filling

  1. Mix 1 cup sugar, 5 tablespoons milk, and 3 tablespoons chocolate in a saucepan for the second chocolate filling. Add flavoring and boil for 5 minutes. Stir until thick enough to spread.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Thick cream
Whips into a light, airy structure that gives the cake its body.
Egg white
Adds lift and lightness when folded into the whipped cream.
Ground chocolate
Provides the chocolate flavor and thickens the filling as it boils.
Sugar
Sweetens the cream and helps the filling thicken and set.

The step that matters

Stop beating at the right point. Overbeating cream past soft peaks forces the fat globules to clump and separate, turning the cream into butter instead of a spreadable whipped topping.

Swap the banana

The recipe marks banana as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream, sugar, egg, chocolate, milk, butter, vanilla):

  1. Coconutfits better
  2. Strawberryfits about as well
  3. Raspberryfits about as well
  4. Bananathe original

Fit is the average pairing score against cream, sugar, egg, chocolate, milk, butter, vanilla. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
