Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Clams
Provide the main body and savory flavor of the soup.
Butter
Adds richness and a smooth, silky mouthfeel when made into drawn butter.
Sweet cream
Adds richness and a mild, creamy body to the finished soup.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the flavor of the seafood.

The step that matters

Adding the sweet cream just before serving. Cream can curdle or separate when held at a hard boil for long. Adding it hot at the end and not reboiling keeps the soup smooth and creamy.
