Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Walnuts
Provide the main nutty flavour and the body of the cream once pounded into a paste.
Custard
Gives the cream a smooth, rich base that holds the walnut paste.
Whipped cream
Adds lightness and fat, giving the set cream a soft, airy texture.

The step that matters

Folding in the whipped cream gently. Whipped cream holds its air through trapped bubbles in its fat network. Stirring vigorously knocks that air out, leaving the cream dense and heavy rather than light.

Swap the walnut

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (hazelnut, cream, vanilla, wine):

  1. Almondfits better

Fit is the average pairing score against hazelnut, cream, vanilla, wine. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
