What each ingredient does

Strawberries
Provide the main fruit flavor and juice that forms the topping.
Sugar
Sweetens the berries and dissolves into the syrup that coats them.

The step that matters

Boil the sugar and water for 4 minutes. Boiling fully dissolves the sugar into a clear, even syrup. Undissolved sugar can leave grains and uneven sweetness on the berries.
