Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Thin cream
Provides the fat that makes the ice cream rich and smooth.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and lowers the freezing point, keeping the ice cream soft.
Strawberries
Supply the main flavour and fruit solids for the ice cream.
Orange juice
Adds acidity that brightens the strawberry flavour.

The step that matters

Gradually add the strawberry mixture. Adding the fruit slowly to the partly frozen cream lets it blend evenly instead of chilling into icy lumps or deflating the mixture. Mixing well keeps the texture smooth.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream, sugar):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Raspberryfits better

Fit is the average pairing score against cream, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
