Apples, Preserved, for Winter Use

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Pick apples by cutting them off the tree with strong pruning scissors.

  2. Handle the apples gently and gather them in dry weather.

  3. Wipe the apples thoroughly dry and discard any that are unsound.

  4. Store apples in a dark, dry place in single rows on clean straw, with straw between each row.

  5. Check the apples frequently and remove any that become unsound.

  6. Alternatively, store apples in boxes or jars, ensuring they are not bruised and are all sound.

  7. Exclude air from the storage cases as much as possible.
