Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Lemons
Their rinds release aromatic oils that flavour the brandy.
Brandy
Acts as the solvent that draws flavour from the lemon rinds.
Loaf sugar
Adds sweetness to balance the sharp citrus flavour, in the optional sweet version.

The step that matters

Removing the rinds. Only the thin, yellow outer zest should be used. The white pith beneath is bitter and can make the infusion taste harsh as it steeps.

Swap the lemon
