Tomatoes and Onions, Baked

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Wipe the tomatoes, cut them in halves, and place them cut side up on a serving dish.

  3. Bake or fry the onions until cooked, then chop them.

Assemble and bake

  1. Cover each tomato half with a slice of cheese and top with chopped onions.

  2. Season with salt and pepper, then spread browned bread crumbs over the top.

  3. Grate a little cheese on top and serve hot.
