What each ingredient does

Beef
Releases flavor and gelatin into the water as it simmers, giving the broth body and savory depth.
Carrots
Add sweetness and color, and hold their shape through the simmer when cut into thin pieces.
Onions
Contribute sweetness and aroma as they soften and flavor the broth.
Celery
Adds aromatic, vegetal flavor to the broth as it simmers.
