Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Rice
Forms a starchy coating that cooks into a firm, snowy shell around each orange.
Oranges
Provide the juicy, aromatic fruit centre and the flavour of the dessert.

The step that matters

Wrapping the oranges in rice. The rice must be cooled and evenly portioned so it packs tightly around each orange. Loose or warm rice can slip or cook unevenly, leaving gaps in the shell.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (rice, sugar):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Coconutfits better
  3. Raisinfits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against rice, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
