Brown Bread

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Mix meal with water to form a dough.

  2. Add a small amount of yeast, as the meal ferments easily.

  3. Knead the dough until smooth.

  4. Shape into loaves and place in a baking pan.

  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until the loaves are well soaked but not over-dried.

Recipe from a historical cookbook (Internet Archive).
