What each ingredient does

Finely ground coffee
Provides the flavour and aroma that the boiling water extracts into the brew.

The step that matters

Letting the gas escape before reboiling. Boiling the coffee up, then removing it from the heat to let the gas escape, keeps the brew from overflowing and over-extracting. Reboiling then finishes the infusion, and standing lets the grounds settle.
