Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

White sauce
Forms a creamy base that keeps the oyster moist while it cooks.
Parmesan cheese
Adds savoury flavour and helps the top brown as it bakes.
Cream
Adds richness and moisture to the sauce around the oyster.
Breadcrumbs
Form a crisp, golden topping during baking.
Butter
Adds fat that melts into the topping and promotes browning.

The step that matters

Bake in a very hot oven for a short time. Oysters cook quickly and turn rubbery if overheated, so the high heat and short bake time must be watched closely to set the filling while keeping the oyster tender.
