Stuffed Tomatoes

Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a slow oven”. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Remove the stem from the tomatoes and slice off the top.

  2. Scoop out the seeds and place the tomatoes stem side down in a baking dish.

  3. Fill the tomatoes with seasoned bread crumbs mixed with salt, pepper, sugar, grated onion, and butter.

  4. Replace the tops and bake in a 300°F (150°C) oven until tender.

  5. Serve in the baking dish or transfer to a vegetable dish.
