What each ingredient does

Loaf sugar
Sweetens the punch and draws out oils and juice from the citrus rinds.
Egg whites
Beaten to a froth, they add a light, foamy texture to the punch.
Champagne
Provides the sparkling liquid base and a light, bubbly character.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that balances the sweetness of the sugar.
