What each ingredient does

Blackberries
Provide the fruit flavour, colour and natural sugars that the wine is made from.
Refined sugar
Feeds the yeast during fermentation, and sweetens the finished wine.

The step that matters

Corking the juice tightly. A tight seal keeps air out so the juice ferments rather than spoiling, and the sugar-fed yeast converts sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide.
