To Keep Fresh Grapes

Ingredients

Directions

Prepare

  1. Remove all unsound and unripe grapes from the clusters.

  2. Spread the grapes out for a few days in a dry room.

Pack and store

  1. Pack the grapes in layers in a dry box, alternating with layers of white paper. Do not exceed four layers in one box.

  2. Optionally, dip the end of each bunch's stem in melted sealing wax and wrap them in tissue paper before packing.

  3. Store the box in a cool, dry place.

What each ingredient does

Grapes
The fruit being preserved; only sound, ripe clusters keep well in storage.
White paper
Separates the layers of grapes, cushioning them and limiting contact between bunches.

The step that matters

Remove all unsound and unripe grapes. A single rotting or damaged grape can spread mould and decay to its neighbours in a closed box, so every bad grape must be removed before packing.
