French Bread

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Mix flour, water, and coarse sea salt to form a dough.

  2. Knead the dough until elastic and bubbly, about 30 minutes.

  3. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours.

  4. Shape the dough into a round loaf, then roll it out with a floured rolling pin.

  5. Form the loaf by rolling the ends toward the center and shaping it long.

  6. Place the loaf on a floured baking pan and let it rise for another 25-30 minutes.

  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) until golden.
