Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a moderate oven”. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

Prepare the filling

  1. Follow the directions for Four-and-Twenty Blackbird Pie, cutting the meat into pieces.

  2. Add the diced game meat, boiled pork, and chopped hard-boiled eggs. Mix in the port wine and lemon juice.

Bake and serve

  1. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour.

  2. After baking, fill the pie through the top opening with gravy.

  3. Serve cold, ideally 1 or 2 days after making.
