Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bread crumbs
Form the bulk of the stuffing and absorb melted butter for a moist filling.
Egg yolks
Bind the stuffing together so it holds its shape around the fish.
Butter
Adds richness and moisture, keeping the fish and stuffing from drying out in the oven.

The step that matters

Bake in the oven until cooked through. Fish is done when its flesh turns opaque and flakes easily. Underbaking leaves it unsafe to eat, while overbaking dries it out, so check the thickest part of the fish.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (bread, butter, pepper, egg):

  1. Parsleythe original
  2. Nutmegfits about as well
  3. Sagefits less well
  4. Tarragonfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against bread, butter, pepper, egg. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
