Easter Eggs

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Boil the eggs for at least 10 minutes.

  2. To color with dyes, boil the eggs with the colored dyes from chemists.

  3. For a patterned effect, tie each egg in a piece of figured chintz or calico before boiling.

  4. For reddish-purple color, boil the eggs with the skins of red onions.

  5. To create designs, trace figures on raw eggs with a hard tallow candle, then boil in dye-water.

  6. For varied colors, boil eggs with Brazil wood for red, Persian berries or turmeric for yellow, logwood for brown, logwood and chromate of potash for black, and a mixture of powdered indigo and sulphate of iron for blue.
