Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Duck
Provides the meat and rendered fat that cook down during roasting.
Bread crumbs
Soak up juices inside the cavity, adding moisture and body to the stuffing.
Butter
Adds fat for basting, promoting browning and a richer surface color.
Minced onion
Adds aroma and savoriness to the stuffing as it cooks inside the bird.
Sage
Contributes a savory, herbal aroma to the stuffing.

The step that matters

Wipe the duck dry inside and out. Surface moisture must evaporate before browning can start, so a dry skin helps it color and crisp rather than steam.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (bread, pepper, sage, butter):

  1. Capsicumfits better
