Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Young chickens
Provide the meat that is cooked through and browned in hot fat.
Flour
Coats the chicken so the skin browns and crisps during frying.
Lard
Hot fat that fries the chicken and browns its coating.

The step that matters

Fry in hot lard until golden brown. The lard must be hot enough to brown the flour coating quickly. If it is too cool, the coating absorbs more fat and turns greasy instead of crisp, and the chicken may cook unevenly.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, pepper, flour):

  1. Turmericfits better
  2. Jalapenofits better
  3. Marjoramfits about as well
  4. Parsleythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, pepper, flour. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
