Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Gray squirrels
Provide the main meat, which becomes tender through long simmering.
Corn
Adds sweetness and body to the broth as it cooks.
Tomatoes
Add acidity and moisture that give the stew its savory flavor.
Butter and flour
Flour thickens the cooking liquid, and butter adds richness.

The step that matters

Mix in the butter and flour, then simmer for 10 more minutes.. Flour dropped into hot liquid can clump; rolling the butter in flour first and stirring it in helps it disperse, and the simmer lets the starch swell and thicken the stew.
