Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the meat and body that flavour and gelatin pass into the broth during long simmering.
Rice or bread crumbs
Added in small amounts to help thicken the broth slightly and give it body.
Onions
Release sweet and savoury aromatics into the broth as it simmers.
Carrots
Add gentle sweetness and colour to the broth.
Celery
Adds savoury, aromatic flavour to the broth.

The step that matters

Keep the broth at a gentle simmer. Boiling hard makes the broth cloudy and can emulsify fat into it, while a gentle simmer keeps it clear and makes skimming the fat easier.

Swap the garlic

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, rice, onion, carrot, celery, parsley):

  1. Thymefits better
