Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Bind the mixture and set when cooked, holding the fritters together.
Bread crumbs
Form the body of the fritters and absorb the cream for a soft interior.
Cream
Adds moisture and richness, keeping the fritters tender rather than dry.
Butter
Adds richness and helps the outside brown in the pan.

The step that matters

Cooking the fritters on both sides. Heat must be moderate so the outside browns and sets before the egg-rich interior cooks through. Too hot a pan scorches the surface while the centre stays soft and runny.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (butter, bread, cream, egg):

  1. Nutmegfits better
  2. Capersfits about as well
  3. Parsleythe original
  4. Tarragonfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against butter, bread, cream, egg. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
