Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cabbage
Forms the outer shell that holds the stuffing and becomes tender through boiling and stewing.
Hard-boiled eggs
Bind the stuffing and add a firm, rich texture.
Rolled crackers
Absorb moisture and help hold the stuffing together.
Butter
Adds richness and fat to the stuffing and the cooking liquid.
Cold meat
Supplies savory flavour and body to the stuffing.

The step that matters

Tying the cabbage tightly. If the cabbage is not tied firmly, the stuffing can loosen and spill out during the slow stew. Tight wrapping keeps the filling compact and cooking even.

Swap the cabbage

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, butter, meat, pepper, flour, parsley):

  1. Shallotfits better
