Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Gelatin
Sets the liquid into a firm, sliceable sherbet as it freezes.
Sugar
Sweetens the dish and softens the frozen texture so it is less icy.
Pineapple
Provides the main flavor, acidity, and most of the liquid base.

The step that matters

Dissolving the gelatin fully. Gelatin must be completely dissolved in hot water before it is stirred into the cold pineapple; undissolved granules leave gritty, uneven patches and weak set.

Swap the pineapple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, gelatin):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Raisinfits better
  3. Figfits about as well
  4. Pineapplethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, gelatin. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
