What each ingredient does
- Ground coffee
- Provides the coffee flavour, aroma and bitterness as its solids dissolve into the hot water.
The step that matters
Grind the coffee correctly. Very fine grounds dissolve faster and release more bitter compounds, so the coffee can taste harsh and muddy. Grinding too fine for the brewing method is the most common way this goes wrong.
