Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chickens
Provide the main protein, which cooks through in the oven to a safe, tender texture.
Brown flour
Thickens the giblet mixture into a smooth gravy by swelling with liquid as it heats.
Butter, lard, or drippings
Adds fat that helps the skin brown and keeps the surface from drying out.

The step that matters

Roast the chickens until thoroughly cooked. Poultry must reach a safe internal temperature throughout, and the thickest parts, such as the thighs and breast centre, cook more slowly than the rest. Checking the thickest part with a thermometer is the most reliable way to confirm doneness rather than relying on time alone.

Swap the cranberry

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, butter, pepper, flour):

  1. Lemonfits better
  2. Coconutfits about as well
  3. Avocadofits about as well
  4. Cranberrythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, butter, pepper, flour. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
